AeroPress

AeroPress

United States — 2005 (invented by Alan Adler)

Invented by the same guy who made the Aerobie flying ring, the AeroPress is a plastic plunger brewer that makes a concentrated, smooth cup in under two minutes. It's virtually indestructible, fits in a backpack, and has spawned its own world championship. The inverted method is popular but not required.

How to make it

  1. 1

Add 15g of ground coffee (fine for standard, medium for inverted).

  3. 3

Pour 200g of water at about 85°C and stir gently for 10 seconds.

  4. 4

Wait 60–90 seconds total, then press the plunger down slowly and steadily over 20–30 seconds.

  5. 5

Dilute the concentrate with hot water if desired, or drink as-is for a stronger cup.
